(A little note before the blog post – it has been ages since I posted on my blog. No excuses. Life was busy and family had priority. Sometimes there are only so many ways a person can stretch! But, I have been very busy with photography and am booking like crazy for the summer and already have some appointments made for fall! One of my priorities for the summer is to get the blog back up to date. I have lots of beautiful images to share and have some wonderful new session and pricing information coming as well. Please check back for updates! I hope you and yours have had a great first part of 2011. Look forward to sharing the summer with you!)

Summer Movies 2011
If you’re like me, you’re counting down the last few days of school with a mix of emotions. I’ll be so glad to see my children all day every day – really, I will! And, I am definitely glad we don’t have to catch a bus at 6:45 every morning. But I do hear this little voice <del datetime="2011-05-19T18:56:27+00:00">screaming</del> whispering in my head, “What are we going to do for the next three months to stay busy and sane that won’t cost a fortune?”

My children love movies – and there are tons of free or really cheap movies to see in the Alpharetta area over the summer. Here is a list of some local summer programs. Check the theater websites for specific details. Most of these programs have greatly reduced ticket prices ($1-$2) and some offer concession specials as well. Check before you go – some theaters will still try to sell you the $7 kids pack. Um, no thanks.

And, a note from AMC’s site. Apparently they aren’t have a summer movie series this year which is really disappointing. I’d love to frequent the AMC at the Avenue Forsyth but not for full price.
“Thank you for your interest in our AMC Summer MovieCamp program in recent years. Unfortunately, the number of guests has been fewer in recent years, with many shows operating with less than 25 guests in the auditorium. Last year, attendance dropped so significantly that we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the program. While we don’t have Summer MovieCamp any longer, here’s a list of summer films that your family might enjoy and if you come before noon, shows will have value pricing (excluding holiday periods).”
Here is a list of the summer kid’s films just for reference.
- may 27: kung fu panda 2: the kaboom of doom
- june 10: judy moody and the not bummer summer
- june 24: cars 2
- july 1: monte carlo
- july 8: zookeeper
- july 15: winnie the pooh
- july 17: mr popper’s penguins
- august 5: smurfs
- august 19: spy kids 4: all the time in the world

I’m starting a new feature on the blog called What to Wear Wednesday. At some point in our pre-session discussions almost every client asks, “What should we wear?” My general advice is to make sure everyone in your group is coordinated. You do not have to all wear the same color shirt and the same color pant unless that’s the look you want. Lots of families want to wear white shirts and khakis. If you don’t, I’ll present some options here on Wednesdays just to give some different ideas.

Usually I recommend that you pick one or two colors and build from there. Try different shades of one color or perhaps different patterns. Try to avoid really busy patterns, though, and stay away from logos. Even for children I suggest not selecting clothing with cartoon characters. This provides for a more timeless outfit and keeps the focus on the child.

This fall purples are really popular – deep purples, plums, even lavender are beautiful with the changing leaves. Cream and brown also look fabulous. I saw a really great looking family portrait the other day where everyone wore black and white and there were splashes of red mixed in. Super fun – and very fitting for all you UGA fans!

Here is the first idea. Enjoy!
