Roswell Photography ~ sigh

February 1, 2010

Sometimes when I’m editing I’ll find an image from a session that just speaks such contentment to me. Tonight I’m editing and listening to a new beautiful lullaby cd and I found this image. There is nothing more peaceful than holding a sleeping baby – or in this case, photographing one. It’s such a pure, relaxing, thankful experience.

My children (5 and almost 3) were running around crazy most of the day but tonight before bed we had some cuddle time beneath the quilts I made for them while I was pregnant with them. It’s not too late for those pure, relaxing, thankful moments.

I had the honor today of photographing the week old daughter of dear friends. My APC family will surely celebrate with me the arrival of Jeff and Nicole’s daughter, Clara Grace. Is she not a beautiful baby? She has the silkiest hair and the most delicate, feminine fingers. Perhaps she’ll have her daddy’s amazing piano and organ skills.

Clara Grace’s mom and I love to spend time together and I am so thankful for her friendship. It’s a blessing to have what I call “2 am friends” – the ones you can call at any time no matter what. She is certainly one of those friends. She is also my monthly pedicure buddy. :)

I can’t wait to watch Clara Grace grow up and see what all life has in store for her.

The four legged beauty below is “big sister” Teela! She enjoyed some of my props while Clara enjoyed lunch. She’s adapting to the new baby so very well.

H family, please enjoy these images! Many more coming soon. Thank you again~

Meet mr e – such a beautiful and content little boy! He has the most amazing skin for a newborn. He really is just perfect head to toe. We had a fabulous session this morning and I can’t wait to show a few of his images. I had the pleasure of doing a maternity session for his parents several weeks ago (here). They are so in love with this little guy.

I love getting images of mom and dad with baby. Dad said today that one day he can show his son that he literally held him in the palm of his hand. You can tell by the images below that he is held in his heart as well.

R family, please enjoy these images. It was a real pleasure to meet your precious son this morning. Enjoy every moment with him!

Maternity sessions are so much fun – especially when there is a sibling involved! It’s so precious to me the way a child bonds with a coming brother or sister. Yesterday little ms. s was such a great helper during our session.

One of the things I love to photograph is a toddler’s hands. Little children have such cute hands and usually have the most adorable little dimples around their knuckles. Then as they grow older it seems these cute dimples vanish overnight. ms s. is holding mommy’s belly and you can see those little dimples. What a great moment – mom’s beautiful pregnant belly and her child’s adorable hands. One day both will be drastically different but this special moment has been captured forever.

We were getting some images of mom and s decided she wanted to show her belly, too. How cute is that?

A family, thank you so very much for the really fun session. I can’t wait to show you the rest of your images. Please enjoy your preview!

Roswell ~ dancing!

January 16, 2010

We had such a blast today dancing with mr. l! He is nine months old and is already so strong. I was amazed watching him stand and push toys and furniture along like they were weightless. Seems he will be walking before long! He also has an amazing sense of rhythm and it was a blast to watch him dance to some great tunes. Mom had everything from salt n pepa to bluegrass to Iz’s beautiful arrangement of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

mr. l was super lucky to have family in town visiting so we also took a few images of his cousins. ms. m and mr. f are also just adorable. I promise we did get some lovely images of the two of them today but this one below just makes me chuckle. So typical of a three year old little guy.

K and family, it was a pleasure meeting you today. Please enjoy the preview – I will have the rest of your images to you soon!

I just love working with mr. m. He is such a handsome and funny little man. Look at these big baby blues! I am tickled pink (literally!) that he is going to be a big brother very soon. I think he’s excited about little sister’s pending arrival. He is going to be an excellent big brother.

We had a great session – lots of smiles, some serious glances, a few minutes with Lightening McQueen and a hug or two to spare for mom. Can’t ask for much more than that! Doesn’t mom have the most beautiful baby belly? Only a few more weeks til we get to meet this precious little girl. I can’t wait to do her newborn session.

During either late February or early March I’m going to have some mini sessions especially for silhouettes. How many of you have one of these of yourself from when you were a child? I just love the timeless look of silhouettes and they make such great gifts for family – especially grandparents.

More details coming within the next couple weeks about these items. If you have a session already scheduled in the next couple weeks and would like to have a silhouette from your session please just let me know in advance!

Wouldn’t these be adorable on little note cards?

I will have a preview of a maternity session and a two and a half year old soon. Stay tuned! (and stay warm!!)

I am so thankful to have lots of newborns on my schedule already this year – I just love photographing babies. Today I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing mr. m. He is such a beautiful baby and did so well for his session. Even though he’s almost four weeks old he was wonderful to work with.

His mom and I were talking today about ideal session times for babies. I love to do sessions at different milestones throughout the first year.
newborn – birth-14 days – sleepy curly poses
three months – ideal for “baby parts” sessions – feet, hands, faces, body parts
six-seven months (sitting) – amazing expressions and fun posing
10-13 months (standing) – transition from infant to toddler – tons of personality and independence

I had a really hard time narrowing down which images to use on my post so here are four! Please meet mr. m with his mom, dad, and big sister. By the way, isn’t she beautiful?

M family, thank you so much for having me today. It was a pleasure meeting all of you.

Stay warm during these cold winter days. Happy New Year!

~On a side note, thank you all so much for your nominations for the Christmas gift. The winner and runner up have been notified and I can’t wait to do their sessions!~

Merry Christmas!

December 22, 2009

As Christmas approaches I want to take a moment to thank all of you who have given me the opportunity to photograph you, your pet, your baby, your child, your family. It truly brings me joy to work as a photographer. When I was younger, I used to think it would be so amazing to be a florist. No matter the occasion people are always happy to receive flowers – whether a romantic vase of roses, a sweet and simple bouquet to celebrate the birth of a baby, or a beautiful peace lily to express condolences at a funeral. Florist I am not, but in many ways I think being a photographer serves the same purpose. Viewing photographs evokes so many emotions. Often times new moms tell me the sweet, simple images of their baby make them cry. Then a year later they tell me how they’ve looked through an album or book and they just can’t believe their baby was so tiny just 12 months ago and is now walking! I have the wonderful privilege of working with families over and over again as time passes and I get to celebrate their family growing older. It is truly an honor to document life this way.

Photographing a couple in love is such a treat. New love just radiates and it has a way of reminding me how in love I am with my husband and my family. For these couples, I hope these images always bring back memories of what it is like to be young and head over heels in love.

Family portraits are so timeless. I have photographs of my grandmother with her family when she was a teenager. I have photographs of my father as a toddler – and I know where my son gets some of his blond curly hair. After funerals my family has gathered around to go through boxes and drawers of photographs. We laugh and cry and reminisce as we look through a lifetime of memories. I encourage you to have a family portrait taken on a regular basis – leave these memories for the generations that come after you.

It is a blessing for me to do what I love while staying home with my beautiful children. I am thankful for my husband’s support and encouragement.

As you gather with your family this Christmas season please know I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be your photographer. May each of you have a very peaceful and blessed Christmas and a wonderful 2010.

~ Please don’t forget to email nominations for a family to receive a gift session and $750 worth of products. Nominations must be received by December 23 so that I can tally votes and contact the winner Christmas Eve!

~ If you need a last minute gift, gift certificates are available in any amount.

The last several weeks of pregnancy sometimes seem to take the longest. The baby kicks and rolls and grows and parents wait with excitement and anticipation to see and meet their child.

This afternoon I had a wonderful session with the R’s celebrating their pregnancy. Won’t be long now until e makes his appearance. I can’t wait to do his newborn session!

Thanks so much for coming by today. I hope you both had a great time at your Christmas party – you have much to celebrate this holiday season!
